|
History : |
The order to build up the new JaboG 31 was published on 01.09.1957. During the first months, the unit was based at Büchel AFB but shortly before the official activation on 01.02.1958, the unit moved to Nörvenich AFB. Like all other Fighterbomber Wings the JaboG 31 flew first with the Republic F-84 F. On 21.06.1961 the wing got his traditional name "Boelcke". At the same time it began with the preparations for changig to the new F-104 G Starfighter. In Juli 1962 the new aircraft was fully adopted and the wing was once more combat-ready. More than 20 years later, in 1983, the MRCA Tornado was introduced and the JaboG 31 was the first wing of the German Air Force to get this aircraft. On 20.04.1986 the JaboG 31 was the first German operational Tornado Wing under NATO-Command |
