1.Squadron | JaboG 38 Friesland | 2.Squadron old | 2.Squadron new" |
|
History : |
As the F-104 G Starfighter was phased out of service, there was no more need to train new
pilots on the weapons of this aircraft. So the WaSLw 10 becomes the home of the Tornado-Weaponschool, which moved from Erding to Jever, and the WaSLw 10 was renamed as JaboG 38. In 1988 the Wing got´s the name "Friesland". Until 1989 the Wing flew with only one Squadron for Weapon Training of new Tornado IDS Pilots, but then the new Tornado ECR was introduced and the 2nd Wing was activated. In 1994 the Tornado ECR were concentrated at one Wing, the JaboG 32 at Lechfeld, and now the 2nd Squadron became an real Fighterbomber Unit with the Tornado IDS of the JaboG 32. On 01.07.1999 the training of Tornado-Pilots was relocated to Holloman AFB and the JaboG 38 was reorganized. The 2nd Squadron was deactivated but the 1st Squadron remained in it´s tasks. In August 2005 the Wing was deactivated for economical reasons. |
