1.Squadron | WaSLw 10 |
|
History : |
The first Squadron of WaSLw 10 was activated at Nörvenich AFB on 01.04.1957.
The second Squadron was activated on 15.05.1958 at Oldenburg and on 1.06.1958 the third Squadron followed. The Unit was responsible for the training of new jet pilots and for this duty has both types of the Sabre, the Mk.5 and the Mk.6. in his inventory. When the new fighter, the F-104 G Starfighter, was ready, the WaSLw should become also responsible for the training with this new aircraft. The Squadron at Nörvenich reformed and with 20 F-104 F the training of the new pilots began. In 1963 the unit was reunited at Jever and the remainig Sabres were phased out. But already in 1965 came the next great changings. The pilot training was moved to USA and the WaSLw 10 became the task to make the new pilots, coming from Luke AFB, familiar with the flying conditions in Europe. In 1971 the F-104 F was phased out and the F-104 G were introduced. After more than 10 years of training on the Starfighter, in the beginnings of the 80´s, the training was reduced. In 1983 the Weapon Training Command for the new Tornado was moved from Erding to Jever and the new Weapon System Officers were trained now in Jever. With the Tornado came a new designation and in 1983 the WaSLw 10 was reformed as JaboG 38. |
