History : |
After deaktiviation of the two former Recce Wings, the AG 51 and AG 52,
and the deactivation of the RF-4E, it was planed to use the
Tornado to fullfil the reconnaissance duties. With the planed deactivation of the Naval Air Wing 1 a complete wing together with the necessary aircrafts and an renewed Air Base were free to use for this purpose. So the Naval Air Base Jagel was handed over to the Air Force and with the official deactivation of Naval Air Wing 1 on 31.12.1993 the „new“ Reconnaissance Wing 51 was activated on 01.01.1994. The sign and the traditional name of the AG 51 and AG 52 were combinied, so that reputation of these two wings will live further on. A main change in the reconnaissance capability of the Gemran Air Force will take place in 2009. It is planed that one Tornado-Squadron will be reformed with UAV's to fullfill the recce-role within the Air Force. |
